50th Anniversary Conference on the Atlanta School of Black Political Science
The Department Naming Celebration:
The Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science at
Clark Atlanta University
In 2022, the Department of Political Science launched the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the establishment of the doctoral program. A centerpiece of that celebration was a departmental-alumni collaborative campaign for changing the name of the Department of Political Science to the Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University. The naming is a recognition of the historic and lasting impact Mack H. Jones has had on the Department, the institution, and in the discipline of political science. Through teaching, mentoring, research, and service, he has had an indelible influence on the political science discipline and thousands of colleagues and students. His founding and development of a unique doctoral program focusing on a scholar-activist model of the global struggles of people of color, especially of African descents, continues to train future political scientists. In March 2023, the Department successfully completed the departmental naming. Mack Henry Jones’ most accomplished life achievements are his marriage to Dr. Barbara Posey Jones and as father to five children, Maxine Kennedy, Marcia Arp, Patrice Lumumba Jones, Tayari Jones and CAU alum, Bomani Jones. The faculty, staff, students, and Alumni of the Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science extend our deepest thanks to President Dr. George T. French, Board of Trustees Chair Gregory Morrison, Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dr. Richard Lucas, and School of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Jaideep Chaudhary for supporting us in honoring Dr. Mack Jones.
