Dr. Nykia Greene Young

Dr. Nykia Greene-Young, the Domestic Policy Coordinator & Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the W.E.B. Du Bois Southern Center for Studies in Public Policy at Clark Atlanta University, launched the 2nd Annual Symposium on Black Women & Public Policy in the South. The theme of this year's Symposium was "When and Where We Enter...Black Women in Power!"

DeKalb County CEO, Lorraine Cochran Johnson, recognized Attorney Mawuli "Mel" Davis with The Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award. Davis is a founding partner of Davis Bozeman Johnson Law, an African-Centered civil rights attorney, human rights organizer, and author. The Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award celebrates the recipients’ commitment to tireless community service and outstanding dedication to being an agent for positive change.

Dr. Joseph L. Jones, former HBCU President, current Executive Director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Southern Center for the Studies in Public Policy, and Associate Professor of Political Science at Clark-Atlanta University, was invited to the Soul of the Yard to discusses his new book Black, Not Historically Black: Toward the Pan Black College and University. The episode was titled, "Envisioning the 22nd Century HBCU: Innovation, Resilience, and Transformation.

Dr. Kurt B. Young joined The Atlantic, in partnership with Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College, on a panel that explored ongoing threats to American democracy. The panel examined crucial issues shaping the 2024 election cycle, including the future of voting rights, immigration reform, and the next era of climate-change solutions.

Dr. Bonfas Owinga, Assistant Professor in the Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University received the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship.The fellowship will support Dr. Owinga's travel to South Africa’s University of Johannesburg for scholarly activities on Curriculum Development for African Social Theory: Insights from Civil Society.

Dr. Hashim Gibrill delivered a presentation on civil society organizations at the United Nations Third Session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, Palais des Nations, which was held from April 16 - 19, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. His remarks were given at the Main Session Item 5: Education: Overcoming Systemic Racism and Historic Harm. Dr. Gibrill attended on behalf of the W.E.B. DuBois Southern Center for Studies on Public Policy.
