In the Fall-2024 semester, forty-one (41) undergraduate students have been invited to Membership into Pi Sigma Alpha!  This cohort will be duly inducted and recognized in the Department in late February 2026. More exciting membership news is on the way!

The Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science and the Office of International Programs co-sponsored the 2025 HBCU-Africa Education Coalition International Conference. Dr. Kurt B. Young delivered a keynote address and graduate student, Mr. Harry Acquah was a panel participant.

The Department of Political Science and the Office of International Programs launched the Pan-African Research Abroad Program to enhance faculty-led student research in Accra, Ghana. Students will travel during the 2026 spring break.

The Dr. Mack Henry Jones Department of Political Science concluded the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Ph.D. Program founding by hosting the 2024 Conference on the Atlanta School of Black Political Science from the 24th - 26th of October. The conference theme was "Celebrating 50 Years of Challenging the Canon."

The Department of Political Science Celebrates Dr. William H. Boone

The Department of Political Science honors Dr. William H. Boone at his retirement ceremony. He served CAU and AU for five decades and mentored hundreds of political scientists, elected officials and policymakers. Dr. Boone is now Professor Emeritus of  Political Science.

The Department of Political Science was awarded a

$1,000,000 Endowed Professorship for Sustainability Policy by the Southern Company's HBCU–Sustainable Communities Initiative matching grant program. The endowment will support the development of the new  environmental politics subfield.

The National Science Foundation's HBCU-UP Targeted Infusion Project grant was awarded to the CAU Department of Political Science to fund the Geospatial Data Systems – Policy Analysis Curriculum Enhancement Project (GDS - PACE). The GDS-PACE project also supports research fellows and a data lab.

Political Science Alumnus, Dr. Said Sewell, named the 11th President of Morris College. Dr. Sewell is the 7th HBCU President from the Department of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University and its parent instituions. Dr. Sewell is the 6th president to graduate from the doctoral program since 1978.
