About Ujamaa Society
Greetings! The Ujamaa Society is the Graduate Student organization of the Department of Political Science. Its membership consists of students enrolled in the M.A. and Ph.D. programs. "Ujamaa" was established in an African tradition that represents a way of life in many African societies. It is a Swahili concept that means unity and familyhood, and served as a core component of African socialism. Ujamaa, therefore, is about taking care of the community, and the community taking care of the people.
We, the members of Ujamaa Society at Clark Atlanta University, seek to further reunite the marginalized people within the community by spreading awareness on political issues and concerns. The organization seeks to analyze the social, educational, and economical issues of its members and community. We are dedicated to encouraging and stimulating the scholarship and advancement of the people. We will work to promote Pan African excellence. It is through the organization and people that diligent and valiant work can be conducted to restore prosperity and equity in the African diaspora using Ujamaa as a basis.
