Bio:

Dr. Crystal Garrett is Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Garrett also serves as an Associate Chair in the Department of History and Political Science and a Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. She completed her Ph.D. in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration at Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Garrett also earned a Master of Business Administration from Mercer University. She teaches POLS 1101 American Government, POLS 2101 Political Science, POLS 2401 Global Issues, and AAS 1140 African American Studies face-to-face and online. Her research interests include politics, international affairs and foreign policy.

Dr. Garrett's service to the College includes Chairing Faculty Search and Curriculum Committees. She is a student advisor and a registration and orientation volunteer for new and continuing students. She also presents papers at conferences and has served as Chair and Discussant at more than thirty conferences, seminars, and workshops. Dr. Garrett created the first food Pantry on the campus and is the Chief Liaison for student veterans for the Military Outreach Center at Perimeter College. She was an Executive Board Member of the Georgia Political Science Association (GPSA). She was chair of the GPSA Community Development Committee and a peer reviewer for the GPSA Journal- Questions in Politics.

Dr. Garrett is very passionate about community service. She organizes food Pantry initiatives and military donation drives with her students to collect items to make care packages for troops on active duty. Other community service activities include feeding people experiencing homelessness, and teaching job training skills to women in shelters.

In 2021, she received the Cole Fellow Award, the highest award at Georgia State University at Perimeter College and in 2021 & 2018, she received a National Award called the Excellence Award Recipient National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD) for being one of the best instructors in the U.S. In 2017, she received the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2012, Governor Nathan Deal selected her as a Governor's Teaching Fellow for outstanding teaching and learning.​ In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, volleyball, skiing, painting, and traveling to continents like Africa, Europe, and Asia.
