Bio:

Hashim T. Gibrill is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University, and a former Adjunct Professor at Spelman College. He has also taught at Bethune-Cookman College (now University), USA, the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, and Waka Teacher Training College, Nigeria, and served as a Youth and Community Worker, Inner London Education Authority, England.  He has served as Chair, Department of Political Science, and Chair, of the then interdisciplinary International Affairs and Development Degree Program, Clark Atlanta University. He currently serves as Global Policy Coordinator, W.E.B. Du Bois Southern Center for Studies in Public Policy, Clark Atlanta University. 

 

Gibrill received his academic training in the fields of Political Science, and West African Studies at the University of Reading, England, Centre for West African Studies, University of Birmingham, England, and Atlanta University, USA. His teaching specializations and research are in African politics, international relations, and comparative politics. He has made research presentations at universities and academic conferences in the US, Nigeria, UK, Ghana, Guyana, Liberia, Kenya and Zimbabwe. He has received research and program development support from the Ford Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, USAID, Fulbright-Hays, the US Department of Education, UNCF/Mellon Programs, and the National Science Foundation. He has partnered with the Walter Rodney Foundation since its formation in 2006.

Gibrill’s publications include “Europe and Africa” Monthly Review; South-South Relations” in The Oxford Companion to International Relations; “War and Recovery in Africa: Getting Beyond the Vicious Lessons,” Endarch; "The Disintegration and Restoration of State Authority in Sierra Leone" in Beyond State Failure and Collapse: Making the State Relevant in Africa;  “Methodological Matters in the Study of Africa: An Appreciation of W.E.B. Du Bois’ Africanist Scholarship” in Phylon; “Walter Rodney and Amilcar Cabral: Common Commitments and Connected Praxis” (co-author) in Claim No Easy Victories: The Legacy of Amilcar Cabral. He is currently completing his book Confronting Imperialism: W. E. B. Du Bois’s World Political Economy.

Gibrill is married to Stella Thami Gibrill; they have two sons and a daughter – Kabiru Adama Gibrill, Rahim Hashim Gibrill, and Yasmin Dulcie Gibrill.
