Bio:

Dr. Laila Scaife Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Clark Atlanta University (CAU). She attended the Howard University in Washington, DC, receiving her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science. Dr. Johnson received her M.S. in Environmental Science from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland.  Dr. Johnson completed her Ph.D. in Political Science at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Johnson’s primary research area focuses on a diasporic approach to understanding environmental justice and the politics of waste.  Additional areas of specialization include American Government and Politics, Urban Theory and Politics, Africana political theory, and Black politics & political science. Dr. Johnson’s research has been published in the journal, Race, Gender & Class and in the Environmental Justice Reader: Addressing the History, Issues and Policy.  In addition to teaching at CAU, Dr. Johnson has taught at Perimeter College at Georgia State University, and at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Dr. Johnson is a native of Oakland, California.
