Bio:

Dr. Denise Quinlan is a political economist and Assistant Professor of American political economy. Her scholarly research explores the intersection of government policy, industrial development and global investment flows, while her specific areas of research interest include the growth and development of industries such as semiconductor manufacturing which is critical for future advancements in artificial intelligence, electric and autonomous transportation systems, and robotic process automation. Her research focuses on how government policies, including industrial incentives and trade agreements, shape the development and growth of strategic industries, including crypto mining, critical minerals processing and quantum technology.

Dr. Quinlan is coordinator of the Political Economy Lab which is affiliated with the Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative and the PROPEL Center, an innovation hub founded by Apple Inc. and Southern Company to prepare HBCU students for the future of work, and to provide them with opportunities to connect with world-class expertise within and outside of the HBCU ecosystem. Dr. Quinlan draws on her background in both academia and industry to foster interdisciplinary research within the Political Economy Lab, and to promote dialogue regarding how these developing industries can serve as engines of sustainable and equitable economic growth.
